Halal-certified industries feature prominently in BEZA bill

The proposed Bangsamoro Economic Zone Act of 2025 highlights halal-certified industries as a cornerstone of the region’s economic growth, alongside agro-industrial ventures and IT parks.

The Bangsamoro Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) and the Office of Bangsamoro Member of Parliament Marjanie S. Macasalong are collaborating to fast-track the passage of this legislation, which aims to institutionalize BEZA as an investment promotion agency.
The measure seeks to attract investments, create employment, and encourage sustainable growth within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

BEZA Legal Drafter Abdelwin A. Sangkula emphasized the bill’s focus on halal industries during a recent meeting with Atty. Sukarno A. Abas, Executive Director of BEZA, and MP Macasalong, who chairs the BTA’s Committee on Trade, Investments, and Tourism. The initiative aims to align legislative efforts with the region’s untapped economic potential.

MP Macasalong noted that advancing halal-certified industries would not only enhance BARMM’s appeal as an investment hub but also empower the Bangsamoro people by creating sustainable opportunities.

If enacted, the proposed BEZA bill is expected to position BARMM as a key economic player in the southern Philippines, attracting national and international investments and driving long-term regional development.
