Malaysia pledges to strengthen ties with the Philippines, explore halal industry cooperation

Malaysia has expressed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with the Philippines as it prepares to take on the role of ASEAN Chairman in 2025. This was highlighted during a courtesy call by a Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid’s on President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr.

Discussions centered on opportunities to expand cooperation in the halal industry, particularly in halal certification and the growth of the halal tourism sector. Both sides emphasized the potential for joint efforts in promoting the halal trade.

Another key topic was the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in driving economic growth. Malaysia expressed strong interest in collaborating with the Philippine Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), particularly in sharing expertise and best practices.

In the area of disaster management, the possibility of joint training initiatives between the Malaysia Special Search and Rescue Force (SMART) and Philippine agencies was also discussed, with Malaysia reaffirming its commitment to assist the Philippines in times of disaster.

The meeting underscored shared values and aspirations, with both parties hopeful that this will lay the groundwork for further cooperation and regional stability.
