Halal Industry takes spotlight at DTI-Led ‘Bagong Pilipinas’ Town Hall in Zamboanga City

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Philippines took a significant step toward promoting the Halal industry as a key driver of economic growth in Mindanao.

The Bagong Pilipinas Town Hall Meeting, held in Zamboanga City, brought together various stakeholders to discuss strategies for expanding market opportunities and streamlining certification processes, emphasizing the vital role of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region on July 12, 2024.

DTI Secretary Fred Pascual articulated the administration’s vision for a prosperous Mindanao.

“We made significant strides in promoting the Halal industry as a driver of economic development in Mindanao. We engaged with stakeholders to discuss expanding market opportunities, streamlining certification processes, and recognizing the invaluable contributions of MSMEs and our development partners,” Pascual said, as delivered by his Chief of Staff Ana Carolina Sanchez.

The DTI also met with business leaders and Halal industry stakeholders at Palacio del Sur.

This included chairpersons of the chambers of commerce from Isabela City, Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur, and Zamboanga Sibugay. Participants from the Barter, Construction, and Halal industries were also in attendance.

Discussions covered a wide range of Halal industry and business-related concerns in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Mindanao, aiming to identify and address challenges while fostering collaboration for economic advancement.
