Senator Mark Villar reaffirmed his support for the development of the Philippine Halal industry during his keynote address at the Philippine National Halal Conference. With the theme “Your Gateway to the Fast-Growing Halal Industry in the Asia-Pacific Region,” the event brought together leaders and stakeholders to discuss strategies for positioning the Philippines as a premier Halal destination in the Asia-Pacific region.
“This conference is crucial for the development of the Philippine Halal industry,” Villar said, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among government agencies, businesses, and Halal-certifying bodies to achieve shared goals.
The senator highlighted the progress made under the Philippine Halal Industry Development Strategic Plan 2023-2028, which aims to expand Halal-certified products and services, promote the Philippines as a Halal-friendly destination, and create a synchronized effort among stakeholders. He cited the establishment of hundreds of Halal-certified accommodations and restaurants nationwide as milestones in meeting both local and international demand for Halal products and services.
Villar also pointed out the significant growth in the country’s Halal exports, which have gained traction in key markets such as Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. He emphasized that these accomplishments reflect the potential of the Philippine Halal industry to compete globally.
In his address, Villar pledged to champion additional legislation to support the industry’s growth, following the passage of the Halal Export Development and Promotion Act. He assured stakeholders that more policies would be introduced to ensure that the country becomes not just a gateway but a global Halal destination.
The senator stressed the importance of events like the Philippine National Halal Conference in fostering collaboration, innovation, and strategic planning. He called on stakeholders to use the platform to align efforts and ensure the industry’s growth is sustainable and aligned with international standards.
“We have an opportunity to make the Philippines a global Halal destination,” Villar said. “I am committed to supporting this vision and working with all of you to achieve it.”
The two-day conference featured discussions among government officials, business leaders, and Halal experts, laying the groundwork for the industry’s continued growth and global recognition.
