27 Farmers in Davao complete Halal native goat production training

Twenty-seven farmers from Davao Occidental and Davao del Norte recently completed a three-day training on Halal Native Goat Production, held from October 15 to 17, 2024, at the Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training Center XI (ATI-RTC XI).

The training equipped farmers with essential knowledge and skills in native goat production, emphasizing ethical, sustainable, and culturally appropriate practices aligned with Halal standards. Participants learned about the principles of the Halal industry, the concept of Halal in Islam, and practical aspects of goat farming, including housing, feeding, breeding, and health management.

Senior Agriculturist Omarbliss B. Dalam, PhD from ATI-RTC XI, and Mr. Robert D. Cardinal, Sr. from the Provincial Agriculture Office of Davao del Norte, led the sessions. They also discussed the current state of the goat and poultry industries in the Philippines and methods for creating a halal-compliant production system.

This training supports the local agriculture sector’s goal of providing high-quality, halal-certified livestock, expanding market opportunities for farmers, and meeting the growing demand for halal products.
