Malaysian PM Anwar visits PH pavillion at MIHAS 2024

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim paid a visit to the Philippine pavilion at the 2024 Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) happening from Sept. 17-20.

Anwar was seen meeting with Philippine officials who are showcasing the “Halal-Friendly PH” campaign.

This initiative is designed to spotlight the country’s expanding Halal industry and its dedication to meeting the diverse needs of Halal consumers and businesses worldwide.

20 Philippine exhibitors are showcasing a wide array of premium crops and local food products, catering to the tastes and requirements of the Asia Pacific region and beyond.

The Philippine pavilion is located at Hall 6F from booth 01-08 of the event.

“Thank you His Excellency Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim for visiting the Philippine Pavillon,” said Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal, DTI-Halal Industry Development Program Manager.

Malaysia vows to deepen collaboration with the Philippines in the Halal economy and strengthen bilateral relations with its ASEAN neighbor.

Malaysian Ambassador Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino highlighted the growing synergies between Malaysia and the Philippines in key sectors, including SME development, digitalization, and advancing the Halal ecosystem.

Malaysia has also played a pivotal role in supporting the Philippine Halal Development Strategic Plan, which aims to establish the country as a premier Halal gateway in the region.

The plan is expected to attract P230 billion in investments and generate 120,000 jobs over the next four years. This initiative is set against the backdrop of a rapidly growing global Halal food market, valued at $2,221.3 billion in 2022 and projected to reach $4,177.3 billion by 2028.

As one of the world’s top producers of Halal food, Malaysia has offered its expertise to train officials and workers in the Philippines, particularly in the Bangsamoro region.
