Lanao Del Norte lawmaker urges gov’t to increase number of Halal-accredited msmes

Lanao Del Norte Representative Mohammad Khalid Dimaporo is urging the national government to find more ways in increasing the number of Halal-certified businesses during the budget hearing of the Department of Trade and Industry.

Dimaporo said that while the government is ramping efforts to train more people in halal products, the real accomplishment is when there are more halal-certified businesses.

“Imagine, I’m from Cagayan De Oro and mabibilang ko lang ilang businesses ang Halal-certified,” the lawmaker said.

He added that small businesses also struggle with few Halal-accreditors. Some may need to go to Manila or Cotabato if they want their products to be Halal-certified.

“We hope the good DTI Secretary can look into this, trainings are not accomplishments, but more SMES are the real accomplishments,” said Dimaporo.
