The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) Quezon City and Makati City have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at promoting Halal products and services in major urban areas.
This move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to support the growth of the Halal industry in the Philippines.
“Sa pamamagitan ng kasunduang ito, nais nating mas maunawaan ng mga lider at stakeholder ng negosyo ang kahalagahan ng Islamic banking units at ang paglago ng mga Halal products and services sa merkado,” said DTI Program Manager Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal in an interview with Radyo Pilipinas.
The agreement is expected to foster a deeper understanding among business leaders about the potential of Halal services and the importance of establishing Islamic banking units to support this growing sector.
The government’s push for Halal expansion includes addressing four key pillars: trade facilitation, investment promotion, industry development, and Halal integrity.
These pillars are essential in ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of the industry.
“We are not only focused on trade facilitation, but also on promoting investments. It’s important for the industry to be proactive in attracting investments, as this will drive growth for Halal products and services,” said another official involved in the initiative.
