138 Filipinos recognized by ADB, IBFIM for Islamic finance achievements

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has recognized 138 Filipinos who earned qualifications from the Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM).

The graduates, from various financial, regulatory, and Islamic institutions across the Philippines, completed the Associate Qualification in Islamic Finance (AQIF), with seven advancing to the Intermediate Qualification in Islamic Finance (IQIF).

Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino Anthony, lauded the graduates as key players in the growing Islamic finance sector, emphasizing the collaboration between the Philippines and Malaysia in this field.

ADB’s Technical Assistance (TA) initiative, which supported the enactment of the Philippines’ Islamic banking law (Republic Act No. 11439) and various capacity-building efforts, played a crucial role in this achievement.

The TA highlighted the exponential growth of trained professionals under this program, from an initial goal of 40 to 1,450 today.

This milestone event underscores the Philippines’ commitment to enhancing its Islamic finance sector and its role in the global financial landscape.
