The Department of Trade and Industry held a seminar titled “Introduction to Halal Certification and Export Market Opportunities” on July 17, 2024. Held in Koronadal City.
The event was attended by 65 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), aiming to educate local businesses on the nuances of Halal certification and the potential for expansion into export markets.
The seminar opened with an in-depth discussion of the Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Program Act of 2016 (Republic Act 10817), highlighting DTI’s role as the lead agency in implementing this crucial legislation.
The event offfered words of encouragement, underscoring the integral role of science and technology in advancing Halal certification efforts. She emphasized how businesses could harness scientific advancements to meet Halal standards more efficiently.
There was also a comprehensive session on Halal awareness. She provided essential insights into the principles and significance of Halal practices, detailing the requirements for certification and the advantages of adhering to these standards.
Engr. Tita B. Suib from the Mindanao Halal Authority focused on the technicalities of the Halal certification process. She outlined the necessary procedures, standards to be met, and how the Mindanao Halal Authority assists businesses in achieving certification.
Mr. Raison Arobinto, Division Chief of the DTI Halal Industry Development Office, explored the export market opportunities available to businesses with Halal certification.
He discussed the rising international demand for Halal products and shared strategic approaches for businesses to successfully penetrate these markets.
The event also highlighted the critical importance of Halal certification for local businesses. She urged the participants to capitalize on the information and opportunities presented, noting that compliance with Halal standards could significantly enhance their market reach and business growth.
The seminar concluded with a reinforced understanding among attendees of the benefits of Halal certification and the promising prospects it offers in both local and global markets.
