Biryani Hut by Sollie’s Pakistani Indian Restaurant has officially become the first-ever Halal-certified restaurant in the Visayas region.
On December 9, 2024, a representative from the Halal Certification Organization, the Philippine Ulama Congress Organization Inc. (PUCOI), visited the NCMF Visayas office alongside the owner of Sollie’s Resto in Lapu-Lapu City to witness the awarding of the prestigious Halal certification.
During the visit, the PUCOI official shared their vision of collaborating with the NCMF Visayas to promote the importance of Halal certification, emphasizing its role in raising awareness of Islamic dietary regulations.
Before the ceremony, the restaurant owner presented their food specialties, allowing the attendees to sample the dishes, which showcased the restaurant’s authenticity and quality.
The event was further highlighted by the presence of chefs from the Savoy and Belmont hotels in Mactan Newtown, both of which are the first hotels in Cebu to achieve Halal certification.
The Halal certification offers numerous benefits for Sollie’s Resto. It assures customers of the restaurant’s adherence to Islamic dietary laws, attracting Muslim diners who strictly follow Halal guidelines.
Additionally, it enhances the restaurant’s reputation for quality and cleanliness, appealing to both local and international customers who seek Halal dining options. This certification positions Sollie’s Resto as a trailblazer in providing inclusive dining choices in Cebu.
It is hoped that other restaurants catering to both Muslim and non-Muslim customers will follow suit and apply for Halal certification. Such steps would promote inclusivity and diversity in the local food scene, further establishing Cebu as a Muslim-friendly travel destination.
