The SOCCSKSARGEN Gems: Agricultural Products Expo 2024, held at SM Mall of General Santos from November 21 to 23, brought focus to the theme “Strengthening the Halal Landscape Towards Greater Opportunities.” The event coincided with the 2nd Regional Halal Agri-Fishery Congress, making General Santos City the center of discussions and initiatives to promote halal and organic agricultural products.
The expo and congress were led by the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Halal Program Director, Undersecretary Zamzamin L. Ampatuan, with key support from the DA-12 Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD).
In his keynote address, Usec. Ampatuan emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering a thriving halal and organic industry in the Philippines. He highlighted the sector’s potential to boost local agricultural production and expand the country’s presence in the global halal market.
“We are paving the way for Filipino producers to compete internationally, ensuring that their products meet the growing demand for halal and organic goods,” said Ampatuan.
Exhibitors from across SOCCSKSARGEN showcased a variety of halal-certified and organically produced goods, including fresh and processed agricultural products. The event provided a platform for local producers to connect with stakeholders, explore new markets, and foster collaborations with government and private sector representatives.
The expo also drew participation from local government officials, business leaders, and media partners, who expressed their strong support for the promotion of halal-certified products and the broader goal of empowering local agricultural communities.
The SOCCSKSARGEN Gems Expo and Halal Congress underscore the region’s pivotal role in advancing halal and organic agriculture, signaling new opportunities for local producers to contribute to both national and international markets.
