Bangsamoro Ministry of Science and Technology to boos science, tech in BARMM with P57M5M budget for 2025

The Bangsamoro Government’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) secured a significant boost for its programs with the approval of a ₱575 million budget for 2025. This allocation, approved by the Bangsamoro Parliament’s Committee on Finance, Budget, and Management, represents an increase of ₱88.5 million from its initial ₱486 million proposal.

The enhanced funding aims to elevate science, technology, and innovation (STI) initiatives in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Key programs supported by the budget include the Bangsamoro Science High School, scholarships for deserving students, disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) initiatives, and the development of standards and testing laboratories.

Minister Aida Silongan, PhD, highlighted the importance of the budget in improving MOST’s services. “This allocation enables us to strengthen science and technology capabilities across BARMM, enhance disaster preparedness, and expand educational opportunities,” Silongan said.

Among the flagship projects are the Bangsamoro DRRM Program, designed to enhance disaster resilience, and the NETWORKS program, which focuses on skills development in the Halal industry and other critical sectors.

MOST reiterated its commitment to advancing STI for the welfare and progress of the Bangsamoro people, emphasizing the role of innovation in achieving sustainable development in the region.
