Six emerging Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) took the spotlight at the first-ever Halal Expo Philippines, held from November 14 to 16, 2024, at the World Trade Center, Pasay City.
Representing the region’s rich heritage and craftsmanship, the participating MSMEs included Aretes, Maranao Collectibles, Maguindanao Weaving Council, Binabatik, Abante Lamitan Weaver Association, and Bulda Manis Producers Cooperative. Their presence underscored the diversity and creativity of Bangsamoro entrepreneurs in the growing Halal market.
The event, organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) under the leadership of Halal Program Director Aleem S. Guaipal, centered on the theme “Shaping the Future of the Philippine Halal Industry Together.” The Ministry of Trade, Investments, and Tourism (MTIT) led BARMM’s delegation, with Minister Abuamri A. Taddik and Bureau of Trade and Industry Director Hussein B. Biruar personally attending alongside MTIT provincial directors and staff.
The Halal Expo Philippines aims to boost the local Halal industry by connecting manufacturers, retailers, and consumers while fostering networking opportunities and potential partnerships. It also provides workshops on Halal certification, standards, and industry trends, equipping participants with the knowledge to navigate the fast-growing Halal market.
Attendees were treated to sessions on the global Halal market, live cooking demonstrations by chefs Zhe Jacinto and Rommel Papa, and innovations in Halal standards for food and cosmetics presented by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Other government agencies, including the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) and the Department of Agriculture (DA), also lent their support to the event.
The Halal Expo Philippines is open to the public until November 16, offering visitors an opportunity to explore a diverse array of Halal-certified products and gain insights into the evolving industry.
