PH to participate in global Islamic finance conference, strengthening Halal ecosystem

The Philippines is set to take part in the 19th annual Islamic banking and finance conference, a major global event that will explore how Islamic finance can build a sustainable Halal ecosystem. The conference, hosted by the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), will be held in Bahrain this November.

Representatives from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of Trade and Industry’s Halal Industry Development Office (DTI-HIDO) are leading the country’s participation, with the goal of advancing the Philippines’ efforts to strengthen its Halal economy. Atty. Arifa of BSP has been recognized for her role in building the Islamic finance sector, alongside DTI’s Ms. Hafidah Happee B. Macadaya and Mr. Yusuf Karimuddin, who recently completed an Islamic finance training program at the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

This participation underscores the Philippines’ commitment to promoting ethical, Shariah-compliant financial practices, which will play a vital role in expanding the Halal-Friendly Philippines campaign and integrating the country into the global Islamic finance market.

The two-day conference in Bahrain will feature discussions on transitioning from Islamic finance to a full-fledged Halal economy, improving supply chains, and enhancing governance and transparency.

The event will draw Shariah scholars, policymakers, and financial leaders from across the globe, providing a key platform for the Philippines to engage with international experts and further its Halal initiatives.
