Western Philippines University (WPU) marked a significant milestone with the historic launch of its ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ at the WPU Main Campus Palao Building on October 8.
The inaugural event was led by University President Dr. Amabel S. Liao, alongside the centerโs Director, Dr. Nhelbourne K. Mohammad. Special guests included Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Provincial Director Engr. Pacifico T. Sariego III and PEDCO President, BIMP-EAGA representative Engr. Cipriano Barroma.
The establishment of the Office on Muslim Affairs and Halal Research Center highlights WPUโs commitment to fostering multicultural inclusivity while advancing research in the burgeoning halal industry.
Through this office, WPU aims to create a supportive environment for its Muslim community and provide a platform for collaboration in the growing field of halal certification and development.
The center would play a key role in pushing forward research initiatives and collaborations that will elevate the universityโs standing in halal industry studies.
The launch was attended by faculty members, students, and local leaders, further signifying the importance of this new office in strengthening WPUโs role in supporting the local Muslim population and engaging in meaningful halal-related research. The initiative also aligns with national efforts to boost halal research and certification, which is an emerging economic driver in the Philippines, particularly in agriculture and food production.
