The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Halal Industry Development Office highlighted the need to fostering regional cooperation and expanding the reach of Halal-certified products in a panel discussion during the 1st PCCI BIMP-EAGA (Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area) Region Trade, Investment, and Halal Industry Conference.
The panel focused on the opportunities and challenges of the Halal industry within the BIMP-EAGA region.
During the session, the DTI Halal Industry Development Office Program Manager Aleem Guiapal laid down the potential for collaboration across various areas critical to the growth of the Halal industry.
One of the primary topics addressed was the mutual recognition of Halal certification between countries in the BIMP-EAGA region. Such mutual recognition would significantly enhance trade and facilitate smoother market entry for Halal products across borders.
Additionally, the session highlighted the importance of developing robust logistics and supply chain infrastructure to support the Halal industry.
Establishing a seamless supply chain is essential for ensuring that Halal products can reach their markets in a timely and efficient manner, adhering to the strict standards required for Halal certification.
The discussion also touched on the role of government platforms in bringing together all stakeholders—both public and private sectors—to drive the growth of the Halal industry.
The session also floated the proposal for a Halal Hub in Magallanes, Cavite.
