Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Maria Cristina Aldeguer-Roque has outlined a series of strategic priorities aimed at advancing the Philippine Halal industry.
In a recent Facebook post, DTI Program Manager for the Halal Industry Development Office, Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal, detailed Roque’s three key focus areas.
First, Roque emphasized the importance of international trade and investment as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation.
By positioning the Philippines as a key player in the global Halal market, the DTI aims to attract more foreign investments and expand market access for local Halal products.
Secondly, the DTI chief highlighted the need for consumer and price protection to ensure fair trade practices and to build consumer trust in Halal products. This priority is aligned with the broader goal of safeguarding the interests of both producers and consumers in the Halal sector.
Lastly, Roque underscored the implementation of a 5-point plan for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
This plan focuses on:
1. Leveraging AI and digitalization to enhance operational efficiency and market reach.
2. Diversification of Halal products and services to cater to a wider market.
3. Securing funding for business expansion and innovation within the Halal industry.
4. Promoting franchising opportunities to accelerate the growth of Halal businesses.
5. Mentoring and strategic learning to equip MSMEs with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the competitive global market.
Roque’s initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to strengthening the Philippine Halal industry, with a focus on sustainable growth, consumer confidence, and empowering local enterprises.
