AirAsia Philippines is strengthening its role in promoting the country as a Halal-friendly destination through a new partnership with the Universal Islamic Center (UIC) and the Philippine Halal Trade & Tourism.
This collaboration underscores the airline’s commitment to enhancing the travel experience for Muslim tourists and showcasing the Philippines’ rich cultural and culinary heritage.
Since its launch, AirAsia has provided Halal-certified meal options on all its flights. The Santan Inflight Menu offers a range of dishes from Filipino classics such as Chicken Inasal and Beef Tapa to popular Asean selections like Nasi Lemak and Chicken Teriyaki, all prepared in accordance with Halal standards.
In addition to its onboard offerings, AirAsia is taking its commitment a step further by hosting the Halal Culinary Cup in Davao during the Kadayawan Festival. The winning dish from this competition will be featured on the airline’s inflight menu, highlighting the region’s diverse flavors and culinary traditions.
“AirAsia is committed to leading the way in inclusive travel experiences,” said AirAsia CEO Ricky Isla. “We are continually enhancing our services to ensure that our Muslim passengers feel welcome and at home when visiting the Philippines. Our goal is to attract more visitors, both for leisure and business, by showcasing the country’s hospitality and rich cultural offerings.”
Marilou Ampuan, President of the Universal Islamic Center and the Philippine Halal Trade & Tourism, emphasized the crucial role airlines play in Halal promotion. “Airlines are pivotal in accommodating Muslim travelers.
AirAsia’s dedication to offering Halal meals and fostering an inclusive environment demonstrates that the Philippines is a welcoming destination for Muslim travelers. We appreciate AirAsia Philippines’ support and the impact of this partnership.”
The Philippine Halal Export Development and Promotion Board estimates the value of the Philippine Halal industry at $1.6 billion, with significant growth anticipated.
As the Philippines hosts the third-largest Muslim population in Southeast Asia, the country is increasingly seen as an attractive alternative holiday destination within the Asean region. Through innovative initiatives and strategic partnerships, AirAsia Philippines aims to further develop the Halal sector and encourage more tourists to experience the country.
