Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman has expressed strong support for the development of the Halal industry in the Philippines, highlighting its potential to significantly contribute to the country’s economic growth.
In a recent meeting with the Department of Trade and Industry’s Halal Industry Development Office, Pangandaman discussed strategic plans and initiatives to enhance trade, investment, and economic activities within the Halal sector.
The industry, which is projected to reach a global market value of $7.7 trillion by 2025, is seen as a key driver for increasing exports, boosting domestic production, and attracting foreign investments.
“The Halal industry offers vast opportunities for our economy. By leveraging its potential, we can not only expand our export capabilities but also create more jobs and foster economic inclusion,” Pangandaman said.
As part of the four-year Philippine Halal Industry Development Strategic Plan, the government is committed to doubling Halal output in the country, with a target of attracting PHP 230 billion in investments and generating 120,000 jobs by 2028. The plan aligns with the administration’s vision for a Bagong Pilipinas and seeks to strengthen the Philippines’ position in the global Halal market.
Pangandaman emphasized the importance of collaboration among government agencies, private sectors, and international partners to achieve these goals. “Through concerted efforts, we can strengthen our participation in the global Halal ecosystem and unlock the full potential of this industry for the benefit of our people,” she added.
The government’s renewed focus on the Halal industry is part of broader efforts to diversify the economy and promote sustainable growth in various sectors.
